Those looking to get into public relations may not be 100% sure that it is the right career for them. Besides having a severe love for coffee (I’ve never met a PR girl that doesn’t), below are 10 signs that public relations could in fact be the best job for you.
- Writing doesn’t bother you, in fact, it’s fun!
- Breaking news? You’re the first of all your friends to know.
- You’re borderline obsessed with social media.
- You enjoy being busy and are multi-tasking, all the time.
- Communicating with people all day is enjoyable.
- Work on the weekends? Totally fine.
- Rejection happens, but you don’t take no for an answer.
- You work well under pressure and stay organized.
- Planning and attending events has always been a dream.
- Being on the computer all day doesn’t bother you and your smartphone never leaves your side. Ever.
Whether you have all, or some of these traits, these are just a few warning signs that you may have been born a PR girl. Do you possess any of these qualities?

ALL signs apply to moi- other than the coffee. SHOCKER, I know. I am hooked on green tea.

Lucky, I wish I was hooked on green tea. So much healthier for you.

Switch out coffee for Diet Coke and that’s me…
In writing cover letters for internship applications, I’ve described my borderline obsession with Facebook/Twitter as “a demonstrated propensity for social media” – it’s all about the creative phrasing!
Love your blog!

You’re not the only one hooked on soda (cough cough MA).
Creative phrasing always prevails.

Love these! Clearly, they all apply to me. A few to add:
A.) You’re an AVID magazine reader! Really, there’s no better way to learn how to find and create story angles than curling up every now and then with a glass of vino and a stack of Cosmos.
B.) You’re a great Facebook stalker, err, I mean, “researcher.”
C.) You love gossiping. Seriously. If you love sharing the news, PR is a great fit.
D.) You practice interviews with Barbara Walters in the shower, in the car, while walking your dog, etc.
(Tell me I’m not the only one who does that.)

Fully agree with A, B, C + D. Facebook stalker equates to optimal Google searcher. Necessary skill.
Thanks for the awesome additions! Xx

I know this may sound dumb, but I was wondering if this job is right for me since I don’t like writing? The rest in the list is fine with me, I just wanted a perceptive from someone in the job.

Hi Stefany! I would be lying if I said that you didn’t have to like writing to get into PR because it is such an important part of the job. However, everyone has their favorite part of working in PR, whether it be writing, planning events, pitching, etc. Writing isn’t the only factor and there are so many other skills you can excel in.
Hope this helps! Xx

Hi and thank you this was very helpful. I would like to continue and give PR a try, so I was wondering while attending college to get your PR degree would you say they prepared you in not just writing but in all aspects of the job? Oh by the way I’m a junior in high school, so i wanted to do my research before making a decision on a major I would like to take. Thank you,S
