When I was in grade school, fall was the perfect time to start fresh. After having the summer to be carefree and spend the days daydreaming, sitting in the sun and enjoying the beach, the crisp fall air was the sign to get back into the swing of things with a refreshed look on life.
Even now, I still look at fall as a time of new beginnings. Part of that includes getting back into a comforting and healthy routine – getting back on the treadmill, cooking family dinner for my sister (and new roommate), cleaning out the closet and getting back to basics with my makeup routine. Below, I’ve shared my new regimen for putting on a fresh face every day of the week.
Find your go-to skincare regimen – I used to have near flawless skin through high school, then I got to college and the mixture of stress, diet changes and hormones brought on a whole different kind of problem. I still experience break outs with stress, but now I know exactly how to handle it if I’ve had a tough week. On top of using a daily face scrub, like Proactiv or Neutrogena Acne Stress Control Power-Clear Scrub, I also use Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque twice a week at night. I always wake up with glowing, clear skin.
Perfect your base – My mother introduced me to bare escentuals as my first makeup brand in early high school, and I had a hard time getting off it for the past 13 years. This year I found my skin wasn’t responding to the the foundation as it has in the past, so I was in the market for a new foundation. Enter Le Metier de Beaute. The brand’s Peau Vierge has changed my routine forever. I have noticed an improvement in my skin tone and texture after using it, and only a little dot of the product is needed to make a huge difference. All I need is a bit of this creamy tinted moisturizer, and Bobbi Brown’s concealer to prep my skin for the day.
Give yourself the eye – Eye makeup has been a bit tricky for me. I’m always worried if I go TOO far, I’ll look a little trampy. Too little, and it looks like I just rolled out of bed. For work, I use a light, shimmery brown like MAC Woodwinked, along with Stila eyeliner and my favorite mascara, Maybelline The Colossal (super secret… I started using this mascara because I heard it’s what Justin Timberlake chose for his models back in the day of the William Rast runway shows. Yes, I am a dork. But promise, it makes you look like you’re wearing false eyelashes and lasts all day).
What is your go-to makeup routine??
