Last week, we posted an interview with the Intern Queen Lauren Berger. We asked her for some advice on landing a summer internship and if you enjoyed reading that post, you also would love reading her new book All Work, No Pay: Finding an Internship, Building Your Resume, Making Connections, and Gaining Job Experience. Courtesy of Lauren, I got a chance to read the book myself and learned a lot of new valuable information I hadn’t thought of.
One of my favorite chapters was about monitoring social media. It’s all too often, we forget that everything we post on all of our social networks can be seen. One tip that I’ve seen people fallen victim to; do not link your LinkedIn profile to your social networks. If you do, every tweet and post can be seen by your business contacts. Meaning that picture you posted of you and your girlfriends taking shots is now being seen by potential employers. Oops!
Another great chapter was on rocking the interview. She offers advice for every situation (declining an offer, are interested but not sure, etc) and bullets out exactly what you should wear. Lauren even provides sample emails to send to employers, including the Thank You note and Follow-Up.
If you’re currently looking for an internship, this book is definitely a must read. As expected, it will help you land a killer internship and make the most of it!
Will you pick up a copy of the Intern Queen’s new book?
